Maia-huu!

You'll need to turn your speakers on and watch for the eyebrow!

If you want to know what it's all about, watch with subtitles!

Charity support

I wonder if fans of benefit and charity concerts, events such as Live Aid, or the Concert for New York City, know how this phenomenon started? I would be the last person to knock Bob Geldof for his great work, or the other organisers, but the first benefit concert of its kind actually took place back in 1971 in response to a crisis in Bangladesh following the arrival of 10 million East Pakistani refugees. The concert was organised by non other than George Harrison and featured such giants in the music world as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar, and of course George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

This concert has just been released on DVD and you can check out the website for more details. I have a copy of the album and the music is really great. However, a more important point is that all artists' royalties from the sales of the DVD will go to UNICEF.

(Oh, and if anyone's thinking of buying this for me... keep an eye on my wishlist because I can't guarantee that I'll hold off buying it for myself for much longer!)

You think you know someone...

If we're paying attention, life constantly pulls us up short, causing us to re-evaluate our opinions. Hopefully, when we receive one of these wake-up calls, we are flexible enough to admit that we might be wrong about someone and change our opinions of them. It's as well, because people change and it's far too easy to become complacent about others: "Oh yes, I know so-and-so." Because how well can we ever know anyone, even the person we are closest to?

I received such a wake-up call on Monday morning. Dragon Dada has been doing the early shift this week and so I've been getting up with him at 6 to take advantage of the hour while the Dragonets are still abed and do a workout. I switch on the television and channel surf quickly to see if there's anything worth watching while I exercise. This was how I happened across the programme that brought me up short and got me thinking...

... I would never have claimed to know our beloved Fran intimately, but I had no idea that she had magic feet.
